15.4.11 Migrant Fare Cards: NMPCP Transport Connections Project has initiated, with the help of Sunraysia Mallee Ethnic Communities Council and Sunraysia Bus Lines, business card size fare cards that people who don't speak English can show to the bus driver and get the correct fare. This will help with the integration of new Australians and also help with the interaction with bus drivers.  The cards are available in seven different languages. To view the cards, click HERE.


15.2.11 Car Pooling: NMPCP Transport Connections Project has started a Facebook page called "Sunraysia Car Pool". This page has car pooling etiquette plus updates from people and agencies when a ride is needed or available. Save yourself expense and share a ride with someone from another PCP agency. Just log in as the agency (or as yourself) and post away. Any personal information (ie location of your meet up, addresses etc) can be shared one on one in the private message section.


15.11.10 Scooter Muster:  A FREE forum about scooters, gophers and electric wheelchairs held on 2nd December from 9am to 1pm at the South Mildura Club Rooms, No.3 Oval, Corner 12th Street and San Mateo. 13.10.10 New Timetables:  New timetable holders have been put up around the East End area, with easier to read timetables. The Department of Transport and Mildura Rural City Council, in conjunction with TCP have responded to requests from Community, to replace the previously vandalised timetables.


13.10.10 Ride to Work Day:  Ride to Work is a behaviour change program that encourages workers to feel good and have fun by commuting to work by bike and experiencing the health, financial and environmental benefits of riding. Ride to Work Day will be held on Wednesday 13 October 2010. There will be a FREE breakfast in Langtree Mall from 7.30am to 8.30am  as well as prizes. 23.9.10 Walktober: Now in its 12th year, National Walk to Work Day, on Friday 1 October 2010, is an annual event which helps employers and employees to build regular walking into their daily routine. Did you know that people who walk before and during work are generally healthier, more productive and creative and less likely to be absent or on sick-leave?  Regular walking can also help to relieve feelings of depression or anxiety. 10.9.10 Pay for Parking at Mildura Airport: From August 2010, you will have to pay for parking at Mildura Airport. Short term parking is still free for the first 3 hours. Thereafter, fees go up incrementally to $24 maximum. Long term secure parking is $16 per day and long term parking (unsecure) is $8 a day for the first 5 days and then $5 after 5 days. Traffic flow has changed as well so if you want to familiarise yourself beforehand, look up http://www.milduraairport.com.au/.13.html


15.8.10 Govt Mailout: From September 2010, all Disability Support Pensioners, and Carer Payment Recipients under 60 who are registered Sunday Pass holders will begin to receive their free registered concession myki in the post. The mailout, which is more than 400,000 cards, is expected to take about 10 weeks to complete. The Victorian Government has also announced that Disability Support Pensioners and Carer Payment Recipients under 60 and Victorian Seniors will get free travel in two consecutive zones on Saturdays from 1 January 2011 as well as Sundays.


1.7.10 Companion Cards: Provides free travel to the companion or carer of the card holder. It does not provide free travel to the card holder, who must have their own concession card. To  use the card, the Companion must ask for a "Companion Ticket".  If the card holder is accompanied by more than one person, only one person is entitled to the Companion Ticket. Companion cards issued in other states are accepted in Victoria.


30.5.10 Bicycle Hub to Go Ahead: The Mildura Rural City Council is going ahead with the proposed Bicycle Hub.

The location is proposed to be a Pine Avenue Location, near the Bicycle Superstore. Plans show 50 + lockers, two showers, two internal toilets and two external toilets, seating, a water fountain and a taxi phone. The entrance to the Hub will be fully secure for card holders but external toilets and bike racks will be available for free usage. 


30.03.10 Ouyen Seniors Mystery Tour: Twelve Seniors caught the Ouyen bus to Mildura and were taken on a free Mystery Tour which included lunch at Fasta Pasta and a viewing of Petronella's oil painting class's exhibition at the Alfred Deakin Centre. The Mystery Tour enabled the Seniors to experience and gain confidence in catching buses, exchanging buses and familiarising themselves with the routes.


12.01.10 Bicycle Users Rally in Mildura: Let councillors know how important cycling is for the environment,  for  health and fitness, for fun  and, in the context of the natural beauty of Mildura, for Tourism. There will be a rally on Saturday 16th at 8am on the corner of Lime and 9th Street.


14.12.09 Improvements to North Melbourne Station: include a new concourse, with lifts and escalators, people will  be able to move around the station at either end of the platforms.  This has also delivered improved access for those with specific needs, and North Melbourne Station now fully complies with Disability Discrimination Act (1992). Also, implemented are: new lifts to the concourse to provide an interchange to platforms as an alternative to existing ramps at the heritage end of the station, DDA compliant toilets at the new station building, hearing Loops on new concourse, platforms and new station building.

14.8.09 Colignan Bus Launch

Starting on Friday 28 August, a bus will run from Colignan to Mildura twice a week. A FREE BREAKFAST will launch the bus at 8.30am at the Nangiloc Hall. The bus runs on Fridays, from Mansell's shed at 9.30 am, returning from Red Cliffs station at 5.15pm. Saturdays it leaves Mansell's at 7.40am and returns from Red Cliffs at 5.30pm. 17.7.09 Greyhound Bus to Stop at Alfred Deakin Centre

Starting on 20 July, Greyhound Australia will change its Mildura drop off and pick up point to a spot

outside the Alfred Deakin Centre on Twelfth Street.  For timetabling and ticketing information people

24.6.09 Safe Waiting Area

Starting on Friday 26 June, it will run exclusively every Friday and Saturday night between the hours

of midnight and 6am. Located outside the Great Australian Ice Creamery in Eighth Street, the Waiting

Zone has a shelter and will be supervised by two security guards during operating hours.


15.5.09 Mildura Bus Review

The Bus Review is looking  for options to improve the effectiveness of the overall network in Mildura.  Services should be tailored to meet the current needs of the community and be designed such that they can accommodate future growth areas of these communities and stakeholders met to help the consultants achieve this aim.

7.04.09 Grant for TCP Projects to engage with Community

Northern Mallee Primary Care Partnership Transport Connections Project has received a $10,000 Brumby Government grant to help continue delivering better community transport services to the Sunraysia community. Minister Peter Bachelor said the $10,000 Transport Connections Project Partnerships grant would allow the NMPCPTCP team to run workshops to learn strategies and identify resources needed for project’s future. 26.02.09  $183,000 Grant to Improve Green Travel Options in Mildura

Member for Northern Victoria Region, Candy Broad said today that Mildura Council had received $183,000 to improve local access to green travel options and overcome barriers to walking, cycling and catching public transport


14.2.09 Sea Lake to Mildura Run

A new bus service from Sea Lake to Mildura is operating one day a week (Tuesdays), leaving Sea Lake at 8.15am, Ouyen at 9.25am and arriving in Mildura at 10.35am. The bus leaves from Mildura at 4.10pm. buses leave from the Centro Interchange in Mildura.. Bookings can be made with Alan Valance on

17.01.09 National Day of Mourning

As you may know, a National Day of Mourning will be held on Sunday 22 February, 2009 to honour the victims and support those who lost loved ones and had their homes and communities devastating by the bushfires and to acknowledge the heroism of the emergency services.

 A public memorial service will be held at Rod Laver Arena at 11.00am on Sunday and will be broadcast live on television networks.  All Victorians are invited to attend the service.

27.01.09 Preparations for School Year

Mildura Rural City Council is preparing for the new school year by clearing bike tracks and footpaths. Bus stops in rural areas are also being targeted to make back to school safer for children.

Deputy Mayor Vernon Knight accepted the TCP Report on behalf of the citizens of Sunraysia, in a ceremony at the Visitor

Information Centre today. Copies of the Report will be distributed throughout Mildura and surrounds.

7.05.08 Mildura Council gets grant to upgrade bus shelters

Member for Northern Victoria Candy Broad MP said the funding would be used to upgrade several bus shelters

throughout the Mildura area. These amenity upgrades will make it easier, safer and more comfortable for people to get around

Mildura by bus,” Ms Broad said. “There are nine school and urban bus stops in Mildura, Merbein, Murrayville, Koorlong and Cardross

that will be upgraded, some with a new bus shelter.

7.05.08 Multi purpose taxis:The Victorian Taxi Directorate is running an information session for people who work with or care for people with a severe and permanent disability and people interested in finding out more about the program. This information session will be particularly useful for General Practitioners who are required to fill out part of the application form for applicants. 4.03.08 Katrina Pyper, Youth Services Support Worker at Mallee Track Health and Community Service, Ouyen has 4, 7, 8 and 12 seater transport available for transporting youth to events and appointments outside of their local area.  This service is essential for supporting the health and well being needs of the youth as it broadens the range of health and well being services and opportunities available for them to access.  Thus far MTH&CS, Ouyen has facilitated transport for youth to concerts around Sunraysia. These services are reliant upon funding opportunities available at the time and as such support is constantly being sought to enable local youth to have similar experiences and support as larger areas available to them. 5.03.08 Sharp to begin Mildura-Adelaide flights  (from ABC)

South-west Victorian airline Sharp Airlines has stepped in to restore air services between Mildura and Adelaide. The former operator on the run, O'Connor, ran into financial trouble and the service folded just before Christmas. Sharp Airlines yesterday announced it would begin services on the Mildura to Adelaide run from the 26 April, using a 19-seat Metroliner aircraft.

31.01.08  Railway Swap (from The Age, 31 Jan, 08)

Former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer wants the Victorian and South Australian premiers to "kiss and make up", so they can agree to a swap of rail services. Mr Fischer, who recently chaired the Victorian government's Rail Freight Network Review Committee, said a clean swap of rail services management would ensure access to ports was cheaper and more energy-efficient. "They should kiss, hug and make up at Penola or Pinnaroo (at the border) and agree that the Ouyen-Pinnaroo line should be given in a 50-year lease for $2 to South Australia because it is over 200 kilometres closer to the Port of Adelaide than any Victorian port. 


14.01.08:   Don't risk it! educational CD-ROM
The Government has developed a CD-ROM to teach primary school children about the dangers of level crossings in Victoria. The CD-ROM contains interactive features for students to explore, resources for teachers to support student learning, and newsletter items with key safety messages for parents/carers.
Children must be taught that trains can’t stop quickly. They need to adopt the steps of 'Stop. look, listen and think' when at a pedestrian level crossing. All Victorian primary schools have been sent a copy of the CD-ROM.

12.10.07: Plug in, Power up and go!
The Red Cliffs Aged Care facility is the latest to join the gopher recharge scheme run by Mildura Rural City Council.  They have joined Mildura Visitor information centre, Country Care, Mildura Medical and Incontinence Supplies, Terry White Chemist, Fishers Supermarkets in Mildura, Merbein, Red Cliffs and Red Cliffs Community Resource Centre

18.12.07:  Free travel on V/Line ~ Christmas Day and New Year's Eve

V/Line passengers will receive free travel as follows:

Christmas Day: all day, all services (see holiday timetables)

New Year's Eve: free travel to Melbourne, on services arriving after 6pm.

New Year's Day: free travel home on the first service on each line from Melbourne.

The GPS technology is allowing Technical Officers to cover areas at a vastly accelerated rate.


13.10.07: National Ride to Work Day a Huge Success
Participation this year exceeded all expectations. A full report will be published on this website in December, in the meantime, preliminary data indicates that there were 29,000 registrations BUT 90,000 participants in total. Of this, 26% were first time participants. It's been dubbed "Australia's biggest ever cycling event", the "largest active transport event" and a "new favourite on the annual workplace calendar."
