Regional city and town service fares - Category A
Regional city and town service fares - Category B
Regional city and town service fares - Category C
Albury-Wodonga

Regional local transport fares in most major towns and cities are based on 2 hour tickets. These allow unlimited travel for at least two hours on local bus and train services.

The ticket expires two hours from the next full hour after it was purchased. For example, a ticket purchased at 8.55am will expire at 11.00am and a ticket purchased at 9.05am will expire at 12.00 noon. Tickets purchased after 6pm are valid until 3am.

A passenger may board any bus or train before their ticket expires, even if the journey extends beyond the ticket’s expiry time.

The scheduled departure time of the service is relevant rather than the actual departure time. So if a service is running late, the passenger may still use the ticket, provided the service was scheduled to leave before the ticket expired. Similarly if a scheduled service that would have left before the ticket expired does not run, the passenger may travel on the following service.

Prices and travel entitlements vary depending on the student’s place of residence. These are detailed in the Regional Bus Fares Supplement 2007 (PDF) 540.71 kb which may be downloaded from this website.

Conveyance allowance scheme

The Victorian Government subsidises travel for students in regional areas to their nearest school when travelling more than 4.8km. Full terms and conditions of the scheme are available from schools. In many cases, student pass fares listed in this document are paid for by the State Government via the conveyance allowance scheme.

The Conveyance Allowance is administered by the Victorian Department of Education.

TAXI FARES (from the Victorian Taxi Directorate webpage: www.taxi.vic.gov.au

The Victorian Taxi Directorate regulates taxi fares in Victoria. Taxi fares increased by 1.1 per cent from 22 September 2007 in accordance with a recommendation from the Essential Services Commission's review of taxi fares. The increase was based on a formula comprising the annual movement in the Consumer Price Index, less one per cent.

  1. The metered fare applies to all off-the-street hirings and phone bookings for casual or ad-hoc taxi travel.
  2. A hiring rate which is less than the metered fare may be negotiated for contracted or permanent taxi bookings.
  3. On any hiring for travel to or from a place outside an 80 kilometre radius of the local taxi operating area, the hirer and driver must agree to the fare prior to the start of the trip. Fares detailed below include GST.
  4. To assist members of the Multi Purpose Taxi Program, the annual MPTP cap will also be increased by 1.1 per cent, and in the future will automatically increase in line with further taxi fare increase

  • the hirers' destinations are in the same general direction
  • each hirer paying no more than 75 per cent of the fare showing on the taxi meter at their destination.
